Staggering. Phenomenal. Unimaginable. That would be my response if you asked me what I though about Iris van Herpen's show: Hypnosis. I guarantee you would agree with my retaliation. To set the scene, Iris van Herpen is a dutch fashion designer who specializes in haute couture craftsmanship. She creates living, breathing, human pieces of art that echo unmatchable feelings of movement with mesmerizing designers and flamboyant color schemes and patterns. I feel along one of her shows on instagram and have more in love every day sense. Herpen and her team once conducted a dress scuplted made out of water with a heat gun and a few pounds of plastic. To perfect this majestical water like appearance of the dress, Herpen shot the models being dowsed with buckets of water from four distinct angles and with a high quality camera captured an impeccable moment in time of when the water reached the model. She worked with many architects and sculptures to piece together the end result of a beauty astounding water dress. In Herpen's show Hypnosis, the models seem to be strutting out through an optical ring of rotating spheres and discs creating a futuristic and modern feeling for the viewer. One dress even moves. The dress moves. Like come on, Herpens innovativeness has left my eyes teary. The show starts off with this eerie hypnotic lo fi music that really ties the whole aroma of the show together. One of my favorite looks from the show was a this green erodensent sheen and shiny ballgown with long beautiful sleeves that hung along side the model as she glided down the runway. The dress reminded me of some sort of swamp princess camp queen, in my opinion. The whole show is absolutely captivating and once you press play you will not be able to stop.
