My 2023 Hot takes

Writer's picture: Chandler SimpsonChandler Simpson

2023 is here y'all! Well it’s been year and unfortunately my lazy little self was about to let y'all get away this month without a blog post. WRONG, I’m back and I am here to give my hottest of hot hot takes of 2023. First before diving into the article I would like to set some manifestations in place. 2023 is the year of the you of the I and of the am. I myself have undergone a drastic change this year, moving to Paris of course, and I just want to be real with y'all for a second. As someone who has lived there the entire way in the same 5 mile radius, moving across the world is really hard.

I have found myself in moments of feeling absent and unreal, and not in a transcending way. Back at home, it was really easy to feel special. OH HaHa I Am tHiS fAsHiOn GiRly sO UnIqUe! Living here, I am the standard, the basic, just like everyone else around me. We all want the same thing. My throat will start to close if I think about it too much. Now I am working on pioneering my independent mindset, tapping out of my excuse era and entering my serve. Repeat after me, I am independent, I am creative, and everything I want comes to me. Thank you and thank you ladies and gentlemen, now let us begin.

  1. Knitting. Knitting is one of the most therapeutic exercises I have ever taken in. When I am knitting, I am immersed with one. That one being myself, the yarn and the needles. If you are severely impatient like me, pick up some needles and challenge yourself. Do not be afraid to start over because you will have to a lot. The best way to start knitting is to buy cheap yarn from the thrift store, order some needles on amazon, and start watching youtube videos in your spare time.

2. Unconventional Accessorizing. Imagine you are wearing a beautiful lace slip, it’s simple but a little too simple. This is when I would like to introduce you to unconventional accessorizing. Instead of letting the slip serve bland, serve glam. Experiment with jewelry, some examples being, adding pedants onto hoops, attaching earrings to earrings, clip brooches in your hair, bead necklaces around your waist and up to your neck. Buy safety pins, they will give you structure. Tie pearls on your ankles, cluck bracelets even. Do everything you can to misuse your jewelry in a chic way.

3. Mediterranean food. We all have cravings, mine is Mediterranean food. My recipe for a quick and bomb snack goes as the following. Toast some pita bread and add humus. After cutting up some tomatoes, mozzarella, and cucumbers, and hell cook some chicken too. Add all that to your pita along with purple onions and balsamic and lemon. You might cry. Mediterranean food is so delicious you forget it’s healthy.

4. STRFKR Ambient 1. This is my favourite album at the moment. This album will make you feel like you are floating through space awaiting your ego death. Every single song soothes my soul, I can quite literally feel my heart pumping when I listen to this music. Each song is unique and encapsulates the feeling of euphoria. If you don't like it that's okay, just know the album carries high frequencies that attract wealth into your life.

5. Collections. For my studio class, we were instructed to collect three things a day. I found this really challenging as I wasn't drawn to objects that didn't have a price. Then I began to think less linearly. What else can be collected outside the physical. Songs, quotes, scents. This year I encourage you to start a collection of something on your own. Whether it be compliments or the number of rainy days in a year, focus your heart on something and give this year a new meaning.

6.CBD cigarette. We are all addicted to nicotine and it is time to quit. A CBD cigarette can get the job done. It has a very herbal and soothing scent and cosplays your mind into thinking you will get a buzz. Let’s be real. You have probably been vaping for so long you don't get buzzed, so why not resort to a healthier option.

7. Camp Cowboy. I am a cowgirl at heart and I am projecting this year a radiance of cowgirl chic. Think Pearl x Strawberry shortcake, or Broke Back Mountain meets ass less chaps. Think of rhinestones and butterfly cowboy boots. Western wear is empowering. If you are feeling stuck in your wardrobe, bat an eye towards cowboy couture. My grandmother, Mama Dee, has always been one of my biggest inspirations when it came to style. She was the epitome of timeless chic and drama. Matching hoops earrings, chunky necklaces, glitter, she always had it all. The best part was every outfit was coordinated through a color scheme of electric blues, pinks, and greens.

8. Ceramic Door Knobs. While strolling through the passageways in Paris, my eyes halted at the sight of this beautiful arrangement of ceramic door knobs. I really started to wonder why door knobs were so boring. We use door knobs every day to let people in and out of our lives so why not accentuate them. My favorite types of knobs have been star, heart, and crystal shaped knobs. If you are feeling creative and cheap, go outside, find a cool rock, paint it, and use it as a creative way to let people into your life. It also makes a great conversation starter.

9. Pilates. We all wanna be hot moms, so let’s start now. I have never tried pilates but I know for a fact it is well worth the money. Some of the most in shape people I know go to pilates routinely. Now it can be intimidating. The machinery is daunting and you will immediately feel the burn. If you are having a hard time finding motivation, I recommend aestheticizing your workout routines. Mediate before, grab a coffee on the way there, wear an adorable workout fit, and bust over to that pilates studio.

10. Pantheism. Pantheism is the belief that everything and everyone is god. You can become your own god or manifest yourself through other gods. A rock can be its own god. Pantheism is also the belief that the universe is one with God, being that the universe and cosmos are divine. I was exposed to this through the readings of Ralph Waldo Emerson. I became enthralled with his workings after reading Nature, and began to explore more of what teachings he followed. Now before I get a head of myself please do not confuse pantheism with panentheism, they are far from one another.

11. Pickle vodka. Now, there are no Trader Joes in Paris, but I have been dying to try pickle vodka. I love pickles and hate vodka but believe the two could balance each other out. The only pickle vodka I know of is by the name of Texacraft Sour Pickle Vodka. If any of y'all have access to drinking this deletable liquor, please let me know and share your thoughts.

12. Core Core. Core core is the corset of the cores. We have heard it all. Bimbo core, barbie core, peasant girl in a drain core. Everything has become its own aesthetic thanks to social media. Clean girl core, heroin chic core, furry core. Core core is a form of deconstructed art typically taken in the form of video. Tik tok exposed me to core core and I have been utterly obsessed. Core core involved taking a series of different emotionally charged videos and clipping them together to create a singularity of introspective. Core core to me perfectly encapsulates what it feels like to be online. One minute you are watching hair tutorials, the next you are watching the world burn, then after that you are watching a grown man cover himself in mustard.

13. Playing Dress Up. Adults need play dates too. Playing dress up is something we do every day, in the morning, after we rise out of our coffins we disguise as beds. Invite some girls over, run to a costume store, be inspired by a character. Better yet, if you are running low on party ideas, invite a bunch of guests over and ask them to come in character. Whoever breaks character must leave the dinner party. Find ways to reconnect with your younger self because you are only getting older.

Whatever intentions you have set for yourself in 2023, always remember that you are beautiful and I absolutely love you. Follow your dreams and don't give up. Be up front about what you want and ask for it. Never let someone else's light dim your own and remember ants before animals and tea before you go to bed. I love writing for my blog.
