Dolce&Gabbana took viewers into a different realm of the captivating stylistic couture of the greeks. The panoply of Dolce&Gabbana looks created an intense feeling of god like beauty through the glaring shimmers of gold, while also perfecting a modern take on ancient greece culture. While scrolling through my endless feed of Vogue’s Beauty Secrets and Thrift and Flips, falling along this gem of heavenly art made me practically ecstatic with excitement. My eyes widened and glimmered in awe of the title. Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda, Valley of Temples, July 2019. After only a few seconds of the show there was no going back, and after rewatch after rewatch I began to wonder why Greece? Why these temples? Why Dolce? Why?
Now I know, as a 15 year old homebody from San Antonio, calling up Stefano and Domenico was not an option for me. So that leaves me to conjure into my own wonderings. For starters, I have always been baffled by Greek Mythology. All the tragic twisted love stories and outrageous mythical creatures roaming earth. What's more to love. Hercules was an all time favorite and the soundtrack was something that I would eat, sleep, and drink growing up. A fuller figured, fair toned, redhead would have been the obvious ideal of beauty in ancient Greece, but instead the creators didn't embody just one aspect of ancient beauty. They embodied them all.
They broke the idea of what stereotypical beauty “should” be. Following the rules in fashion is like breaking them. Lines need to be cross. Boundaries need to be broken. They took one step further in developing the image of female prosperity and another thanks to fashion because since the event, tourists can actually take part in the Temple of Concordia. Before viewers were just allowed to walk around the site, but now tourists are given the opportunity to take a look inside the columrade. What admire most about this show is that it leaves room for elegance and empowerment. As these models walk the Valley of Temples, I envisioned myself as a that posed and profound, arrow-headed warrior, on her way to catch the eyes of those Trojans. And I’m sure you will feel the same after experiencing this unique event.
Throughout the show, I was most drawn to their ravishing golds paired with the fairest of whites. Along with the bronzed flower crowns that were a stunning accent to the couture. From the euphony of harps to the Greek headpieces, you could feel the amount of work these influencers put into this weeks designs. The littlest details made the show what it is. Luxurious and inspiring. I look forward to much more now from Dolce&Gabbana and hopefully next tunic party I go to I’ll be dripping in D&G.
